A chromatographic separation method separates ruthenium from other platinum group metals in a feed solution, by converting the Ru to a nitrosyl complex retaining the nitrosyl complex temporarily on the chromatography column and subsequently eluting Ru, for example using an oxidising or reducing eluent. Fig 1 shows the elution profile obtained from a mixture of Rh chlorocomplexes (Peak 1) and Ru nitrosyl species (Peak 2).

Why it's free to use
- Filed October 26, 2001 and granted January 4, 2011. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 26, 2021.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 26, 2023.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
