It is intended to provide compositions and foods for improving lipid metabolism which are expected as being capable of improving the metabolism of lipids and thus exerting effects of preventing and ameliorating hyperlipemia obesity, arteriosclerosis, etc. Namely compositions for improving lipid , metabolism characterized by containing valine as the active ingredient; compositions for preventing or treating hyperlipemia and foods for preventing or ameliorating hyperlipemia; and compositions for preventing or treating obesity and foods for preventing or ameliorating obesity.
