Abstract From the Canadian patent

Combinations including vanadium (IV)/(V) compounds and pharmaceutically acceptable amines selected from amongst the group of semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase substrates (SSAO) are imitators of insulin. The preferred vanadium (IV)/(V) compounds are vanadyl salts vanadyl complexes and vanadates , (for example sodium orthovanadate ). The preferred amines are tyramine and benzylamine. As a result of a synergy between the vanadium compound and the amine disclosed herein, an effective concentration of vanadate in said combination is lower than the one corresponding to vanadate alone.
