Abstract From the Canadian patent

An apparatus and a method for treating ailments of the human body by electromagnetic waves are described. The body part to be treated is located inside an induction coil and the coil is energized from a storage battery through the special switching device. The switching device comprises a pair of metal rods one of which is hand-held by the operator and intermittently contacted with the other to apply successive pulses of current to the coil. The current pulses have a substantially rectangular waveform with a trailing edge produced by an arc discharge current when the switch is opened.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed September 28, 2001 and granted August 7, 2012. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 28, 2021.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 28, 2023.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
