Abstract From the Canadian patent

In the field of through-casing gas detection related to oil production there is a need to identify the presence of gas in a formation. A gas detection method includes carrying out respective neutron and density logs using neutron (12) and density (13) detectors along a length of well. The density log is corrected for the dimensions and properties of the well casing. The corrected density log is then combined with the neutron log to compensate for regions of artificially high density outside the casing. The compensated density log is continuously calibrated against the neutron log. The dynamically calibrated density and neutron logs are inspected for crossovers that signify the presence of …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed February 28, 2003 and granted July 30, 2013. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended February 28, 2023.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 28, 2025.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
