Abstract From the Canadian patent

Plants infected with potato virus Y (PVY) were inoculated with infectious PVX RNA encoding PVX coat protein (CP) and modified chimeric NDV/BYMV CP. Antigencoated plate indirect ELISA and immunoelectron microscopy of virus purified from infected plants showed that progeny virions contained from <1% to as much as 25% chimeric CP. The method can be used to produce and purify large amounts of NDV vaccine. Transencapsidated PVY virions expressing NDV were purified and used to induce anti-NDV antibodies in mice. Further transgenic tobacco plants , expressing HIV/BYMV CP were inoculated with BYMV. Progeny virions from transgenic plants contained transgenic HIV/BYMV CP.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed June 26, 2001. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended June 26, 2021.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 26, 2023.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
