A method and system for reducing the undesirable noise in a communication signal is provided. Designed specifically to address the problem of telephone communications where the desired speech signal is contaminated by background noise, this invention employs digital signal processing of the communication signal (101) to selectively emphasize (105 106), buffer (103), amplify (109), and smooth (107 108) the components of the signal, thereby enhancing the signal quality (signal to noise ratio) of the presented communication signal.

Why it's free to use
- Filed June 19, 2001. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended June 19, 2021.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 19, 2023.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
