Noise can be introduced into a video image in many ways and can significantly impact the effectiveness of video processing algorithms. This paper, proposes a fast automated white-noise estimation method that gives reliable estimates in video images with low and high noise levels and images with smooth, and textured areas. This technique finds homogeneous blocks and estimates the noise variance in these blocks. It takes video image structure into account. The method uses a new measure to determine if a block is homogeneous. The proposed method selects intensity-homogeneous blocks in a video image by rejecting blocks with structure using a new structure analyzer. The analyzer used is …

Why it's free to use
- Filed December 17, 2002. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended December 17, 2022.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 17, 2024.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
