Abstract From the Canadian patent

57) Abstract: Orthoborate salts suitable for use as electrolytes in lithium batteries and methods for making the electrolyte salts are pro vided. The electrolytic salts have one of the formulae (1). In this formula anionic orthoborate groups are capped with two bidentate chelating groups, Y1 and Y2, Certain preferred chelating groups are dibasic acid residues, most preferably oxalyl malonyl and succinyl, disulfonic acid residues. sulfoacetic acid residues and halo-substi tuted alkylenes. The salts are soluble in non-aqueous solvents and polymeric gels and are useful components of lithium batteries in electrochemical devices.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed June 18, 2001. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended June 18, 2021.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 18, 2023.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
