Abstract From the Canadian patent

Fat cells in a living patient are non-invasive destroyed without separating the skin from the body by applying to the fat layer high intensity focused ultrasound simultaneously in a multiplicity of discrete focal zones (F1-Fn) produced by a single transducer array (10). Why it's free to use

  • Filed May 12, 2000 and granted November 8, 2011. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 12, 2020.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 12, 2022.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
