Robust and existing standard bit streams are mixed in a backward compatible manner for forming enhanced modes for better reception of ATSC DTV signals. This is, achieved by an enhanced coding block provided at the input of a conventional ATSC trellis, encoder unit. The enhanced coding block comprising a trellis encoder encodes only the, robust stream while passing the normal standard stream unaltered. Fig. 3

Why it's free to use
- Filed October 23, 2002. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended October 23, 2022.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 23, 2024.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
