Surfactant protein D (SP-D) is a 43-kDa member of the collectin family of collagenous lectin domain-containing proteins that is expressed in epithelial cells of the lung. The SP-D gene was targeted by homologous recombination in embryonic stem cells that were used to produce SP-D (-/-) mice. The SP-D (-/-) deficiency caused inflammation, increased oxidant production by isolated alveolar macrophages, abnormal surfactant structure and levels and decreased , SP-A expression. Why it's free to use
- Filed April 26, 2001 and granted March 27, 2012. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 26, 2021.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 26, 2023.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
