Abstract From the Canadian patent

The frequency error of an oscillator is minimized by characterizing the oscillator. A reference signal from an external source containing a minimal frequency error is provided to an electronic device. The external signal is used as a reference frequency to estimate the frequency error of an internal frequency source. The electronic device monitors parameters that are determined to have an effect on the frequency accuracy of the internal frequency source. Temperature is one parameter known to have an effect on the frequency of the internal frequency source. The electronic device collects and stores the values of the parameters as well as the corresponding output frequency or …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed May 8, 2001 and granted January 4, 2011. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 8, 2021.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 8, 2023.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
