Abstract From the Canadian patent

Plants are described containing DNA sequences which are capable of modifying the carbohydrate or protein concentration and the carbohydrate or protein composition. DNA sequences described reduce in the plant the ADPglucose-pyrophosphorylase activity and thereby the starch concentration and at the same time increases the mono- and oligosaccharide concentration. Other DNA sequences reduce or increase the protein concentration. Plants that contain these sequences are suitable inter alia for the extraction of sugar or as protein-enriched food or fodder.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed April 18, 1991. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended April 18, 2011.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 18, 2013.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
