Abstract From the Canadian patent

The invention concerns a method and a device for non-invasive measurement of a tissue and in particular of the skin bilirubin level. The inventive device is characterised in that it comprises: a reading head (1) capable of sending several flashes of various specific wavelengths towards the tissue (2) to be examined and of receiving and measuring in return the reflected light; a calculator, such as a microprocessor, capable of calculating for each wavelength the amount of reflected light and bring it to a value calculated proportionally to a reference value identical for a predetermined wavelength; and a comparator for comparing the calculated value to a table of reference values.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed March 1, 2001 and granted May 3, 2011. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended March 1, 2021.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by March 1, 2023.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
