Abstract From the Canadian patent
An animal shunning device for imparting high voltage low current energy to, for example, an animal. The device includes an elongated staff (10) housing metal prongs (14) within a sleeve (12) that slidably reveals the prongs in response to an application of force from a target animal. An energy source coupled to the prongs is enabled after the sleeve slides a predetermined distance of the staff, thereby delivering energy to the animal via the prongs.

Why it's free to use
- Filed January 11, 2001. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended January 11, 2021.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by January 11, 2023.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
