Abstract From the Canadian patent

This invention describes new LED structures that provide increased light extraction efficiency. The new LED structures include arrays of electrically interconnected micro-LEDs (12) that have an active layer (14) sandwiched between two oppositely doped layers (16 18). The micro-LEDs are formed on a , first spreader layer (18) with the bottom layer (16) of the micro-LEDs in contact with the first spreader (18). A second spreader layer (24) is formed over the micro-LEDs (12) and in contact with their top layer (16). The first spreader layer (18) is electrically isolated from the second spreader layer (24). Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 20, 2000 and granted May 29, 2012. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 20, 2020.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 20, 2022.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
