Abstract From the Canadian patent

A method and apparatus for spectral analysis of a sampled signal are provided. According to the method, a first time interval .DELTA.T is determined which represents asample set over which the signal can be averaged for purpose of decomposing thesignal into instantaneous mean and random components. From random componentof the signal, the optimal time-dependent time interval AW over which the randomcomponent should be averaged to obtain the instantaneous frequency spectrum (IFS)is then calculated based upon the instantaneous signal memory. Signal memoryspecifies the extent in time beyond which the signal "forgets" its past behavior andthus is a measure of its degree-of-randomness. …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed May 24, 2000. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended May 24, 2020.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 24, 2022.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
