Uniform crushable gel beads for topical delivery of biologically or cosmetically active agents in cosmetic pharmaceutical, etc. formulations are produced by injection of a hot gelling agent liquid into a cold moving stream of oil contained in a conduit employing a T-piece. Cold oil can be recirculated and the beads separated with a screen. Preferred beads are agar beads containing an active agent retained in the bead by a restraining polymer. Desired organic solvent adjuvants can be adsorbed on oil-absorbent microspheres and included in the beads.

Why it's free to use
- Filed November 1, 2000 and granted July 5, 2011. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 1, 2020.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 1, 2022.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
