Abstract From the Canadian patent
A protective garment for use when riding motorcycles or other vehicles in which the rider is exposed includes protective armor in for example, portions , of the garment covering the back shoulders (22), elbows (22) and knees. The armor is attached elastically (24) to the interior of the garment so that it can move freely with the rider instead of being immovably fixed to garment. The armor thus protects the rider's most vulnerable areas from abrasion or impact, regardless of the rider's movements in the garment and does not , restrict the rider's movements or compromise his comfort while in the garment.

Why it's free to use
- Filed September 8, 2000. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended September 8, 2020.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 8, 2022.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
