Abstract From the Canadian patent

A safety device for a food processor enables operation of the motor only when a pusher occupies the chute through which food products are introduced. - The pusher has a rib (1) the lower end of which bears against a slider (2) that can have a parallelogram cross section with inclined opposite end faces. When the pusher is advanced so the rib passes the slider the rib displaces the slider laterally. The displaced slider in turn displaces a lid rod. The lid rod bears against a bowl rod (3). The lower end of the bowl rod operates a switch. (4) Applications: larger chute area without the risk of accident.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed May 1, 2002 and granted March 29, 2011. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 1, 2022.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 1, 2024.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
