The preparation and use of nucleic acid fragments encoding plant fatty acid modifying enzymes associated with modification of the delta-9 position of fatty acids, in particular, formation of conjugated double bonds are disclosed. Chimeric genes incorporating such nucleic acid fragments and suitable regulatory sequences can be used to create transgenic plants having altered lipid profiles. The preparation and use of nucleic acid fragments encoding plant fatty acid modifying enzymes associated with formation of a trans delta-12 double bond also are disclosed. Chimeric genes incorporating such nucleic acid fragments and suitable regulatory sequences can be used to create transgenic …

Why it's free to use
- Filed August 15, 2000 and granted July 16, 2013. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended August 15, 2020.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 15, 2022.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
