Abstract From the Canadian patent

The dangers of short circuiting and lithium metal plating during recharging of a unitary laminate lithium ion intercalation battery cell (10) are alleviated by trimming the periphery of the cell (10) with a transverse slicing cut made at an angle from the perpendicular of the major plane surface of the cell (10). The resulting angled peripheral edges (26) of the cell provides greater edge separation between electrode layers (13 17) and reduces the occurrence , of metal plating accumulation of lithium ions at the edge surface (28) of the negative electrode (17).

Why it's free to use

  • Filed May 17, 2000. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended May 17, 2020.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 17, 2022.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
