Abstract From the Canadian patent

The present invention demonstrates that polycationic non-lipid:DNA , formulations are resistant to nebulizer-induced degradation and are much more specific and efficient than lipid-based formulations in transfecting respiratory tract tissues in vivo. Results presented herein demonstrate that polyethyleneimine (PEI) formulations are about 10-fold more effective than previous lipid-based formulations when delivered in vivo by jet nebulizer. Therefore, aerosolized polyethyleneimine-based formulations are provided herein for use in targeting gene therapy via the respiratory tract.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed March 31, 2000. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended March 31, 2020.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by March 31, 2022.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
