Abstract From the Canadian patent

A method of determining an operating state of an internal combustion engine in a hybrid electric vehicle drive system comprising an internal combustion engine having an output shaft which is coupled to a generator. The engine includes a fuel injector responsive to a fuel command. The method comprises the steps of determining an ON/OFF status of the fuel command and determining the generator torque. The generator torque provides an indication of the actual engine torque. An engine running flag is set ON when the fuel command is ON and tie generator torque value is greater than a predetermined value. Otherwise the engine running flag is set OFF.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 8, 2001. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended November 8, 2021.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 8, 2023.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
