Novel compositions are provided for introducing into a cell a nucleic acid , molecule capable of modulating the genotype and phenotype. The gene can be introduced into a mammalian host by way of an expression vector either as naked DNA or conjugated to carriers, particularly cationic carriers. The conjugation is accomplished by means of an ethylene-containing moiety tethered to the nucleic acid molecule. The techniques and compositions find use in the palliation or treatment of any of a variety of genetic-based disorders.

Why it's free to use
- Filed December 3, 1999. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended December 3, 2019.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 3, 2021.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
