The zipper includes zipper tape with a narrow band of untreated surface on the leading edges of the flanges that permits the tack sealing of the flanges together by noncontinuous sealing bars. This prevents the leading edge of the flanges from curling or flipping up thereby reducing the tendency of a leading edge of a zipper from jamming as the web moves over the collar of a form fill and seal apparatus.

Why it's free to use
- Filed May 3, 2001. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended May 3, 2021.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 3, 2023.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
