According to the invention, the testing is decentralised and is carried out , online and almost permanently with the help of the digital processor of the subscriber line. The test results are collected at a central point and from there, are signalled to particular locations on the subscriber access network when necessary, e.g. to a distributor node on which maintenance work is being carried out.

Why it's free to use
- Filed September 27, 1999. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended September 27, 2019.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 27, 2021.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
