CBP histone acetyltransferase acetylates Importin .alpha. affecting ability of Importin .alpha. to translocate into the nucleus and import a cargo protein. Assays identify substances which modulate interaction between CBP and Importin .alpha. and acetylation of Importin .alpha. by CBP. Substances identified in the assays are useful for treatment of disorders in which Importin .alpha. plays a role.

Why it's free to use
- Filed August 20, 1999. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended August 20, 2019.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 20, 2021.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
