Abstract From the Canadian patent

In customer access networks wherein information is exchanged according to a transmission method xDSL, a problem arises in that the maximum available transmission capacity is highly dependent on physical conditions of compatibility. If these conditions are modified the modems must adapt , themselves again. If the initial transmission capacity is not reached any longer, the xDSL line is taken out of service. The present invention solves this problem by establishing a communication channel between the modem and a central control logic.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed February 8, 1999. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended February 8, 2019.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 8, 2021.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
