In a sensor using a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) both ends, of the FBG are protected with resin coating and a coated part is adhered or mechanically clamped to fixed parts. A spring or a lever or both of these are connected to one end of this fixed part. This is used as a sensing element to convert a variation of a physical quantity such as displacement weight, pressure or acceleration applied to between the fixed parts to a variation of a reflected wavelength or a transmitted wavelength from a fiber Bragg grating and to output the variation of the reflected wavelength and transmitted wavelength.

Why it's free to use
- Filed February 6, 2001. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended February 6, 2021.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 6, 2023.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
