A method for producing uranium oxide includes combining uranium tetrafluoride and a solid oxidizing agent having a lower thermodynamic stability than the uranium oxide; heating the combination below the vapor point of the uranium tetrafluoride to sufficiently react the uranium tetrafluoride and the oxidizing agent to produce uranium oxide and a non-radioactive fluorine compound; and removing the fluorine compound.

Why it's free to use
- Filed May 18, 1999. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended May 18, 2019.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 18, 2021.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
