Abstract From the Canadian patent

A power tool comprises a body (10) housing a motor with a first output shaft (50) and an attachment (42) for engagement with the output shaft of the body. The attachment (42) includes an output shaft which transmits rotational motion derived from the rotational motion of the motor (44) within the body (10) and also has a gear mechanism (48) causing a gear change in rotational speed between its input and output. A combination of the body and the attachment thereby provides a power tool with a plurality of serially-coupled gear mechanisms.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed February 15, 2001 and granted April 23, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended February 15, 2021.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 15, 2023.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
