Abstract From the Canadian patent

A support device adapted to support mussels in an aquatic mussel harvesting operation. Typically there is a mesh tubing, which is suspended from an upper support and seed mussels are, placed in the tubing and lowered into the sea to enable the mussels to grow. There is a plurality of support devices connected to the mesh tubing at vertically-spaced locations. Each device has a support plate with an opening to receive the mesh tubing and a connecting member with locking teeth that extends through the mesh tubing. As the mussels grow, these are supported by each plate at the spaced vertical intervals.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed September 28, 2000 and granted August 19, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 28, 2020.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 28, 2022.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
