The invention provides assays for quorum-sensing autoinducer and antibiotic activities. In some embodiments a recombinant reporter gene construct in a host strain, includes a reporter coding sequence under the transcriptional control of a promoter that is, responsive to a selected autoinducer. In an alternative aspect the invention , provides for the, use of quorum-sensing antagonists with antibiotics. In some embodiments the , co-, administration of an antibiotic and an antagonist of quorum-sensing may alleviate adverse, effects that would result from the induction of quorum-sensing systems by an antibiotic that, would otherwise act as an autoinducer.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed January 9, 2001. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended January 9, 2021.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by January 9, 2023.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
