Abstract From the Canadian patent

In a loop network system, a method and apparatus for automatic bypass of a node port (210) associated with a hub port (200) when the node port (210) generates a number of errors beyond a threshold level. In one aspect a , programmable error control circuit (218) provides this automatic bypass. The tolerance level is set through programmable parameters including a number of errors as well as a time interval to evaluate the number of errors detected. After a node port (210) has been bypassed by the error control circuit (218) the error control circuit (218) continues to monitor the error generation of the node port (210). When that error generation has reached an acceptable tolerance …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed April 27, 1999 and granted April 16, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 27, 2019.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 27, 2021.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
