Abstract From the Canadian patent

A chiral laser apparatus (10) comprises a layered structure configured to produce a photonic stop band, the layered structure including an upper chiral material layer (14), a middle excitable light-emitting layer (12) and a lower , chiral material layer (16) and an excitation source (22) that when applied to , the layered structure causes the middle light-emitting layer (12) to emit electromagnetic radiation, such that polarized lasing at a lasing wavelength occurs in a direction perpendicular to the layered structure. The middle lightemitting layer (12) may be configured to produce a defect such that lasing advantageously occurs at a wavelength corresponding to a localized photonic …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed December 21, 1999. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended December 21, 2019.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 21, 2021.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
