The present invention relates to cell death genes which are genes required , for programmed cell death; mutant organisms in which ectopic programmed cell , death occurs in embryos to a greater than normal extent and agents which alter the ability to modulate programmed cell death of cells. A mutant form of Daktl, Daktlq in a Drosophila melanogaster has been identified. Daktl and its mammalian homolog, PKB are known to protect cells from undergoing apoptosis. A genetic screen for identifying genes related to programmed cell death by their ability to interact genetically with the mutant form of Daktl is described.

Why it's free to use
- Filed April 26, 1999. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended April 26, 2019.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 26, 2021.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
