Benzofuryl-.alpha.-pyrone derivatives represented by general formula (I) or salts thereof wherein R1 represents hydrogen or C1-5 alkyl; R2 represents hydrogen, -CO-R5 or SO2R6; R3 represents hydrogen C1-5 alkyl, etc.; and R4 is , a substituent of a definite structure attached to the 4- 5-, 6- or 7-position , of the benzofuran ring. These compounds are useful as remedies for hyperglyceridemia, lipid metabolism improving agents preventives/remedies for , arteriosclerosis etc.
