Abstract From the Canadian patent

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for analyzing a sample by providing two light sources coupling light emitted from the two light sources into a common beam, guiding the common beam through a sample to be analyzed to generate a first signal and a second signal different from the first signal. The first signal is used to obtain a nephelometric measurement and the second signal is used to obtain a spectrophotometric measurement of the sample. The methods and apparatus are useful in in-vitro diagnosis.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed October 10, 2000 and granted April 5, 2011. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 10, 2020.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 10, 2022.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
