Abstract From the Canadian patent

A universal joint that includes a ring having a lubricant channel for allowing lubricant flow. A yoke is disposed within the ring. The universal joint further includes a shaft and pins pivotally interconnecting the yoke and the shaft to the ring. A number of bearings are disposed in the ring in fluid contact with the lubricant channel. The lubricant channel is non-continuous, extending less than 360 degrees around the ring such that lubricant entering a first lubricant port must travel through the entire length of the lubricant chancel before exiting through a second lubricant port.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed June 28, 1990 and granted February 19, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 28, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 28, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
