The invention provides a drainage element that is placed adjacent to an open side of a bathtub or shower stall. The drainage element is a step that is positioned along the perimeter of the open side of the bathtub or shower stall. A drainage channel runs along the top surface of the step, and a drain pipe is coupled to the bottom of the drainage channel. The drain pipe is then connected to a drainage line. In operation, water is collected in the drainage channel and then drains via the drain pipe into the drainage line.

Why it's free to use
- Filed August 30, 2000. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended August 30, 2020.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 30, 2022.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
