A catalytic reforming process is disclosed using a catalyst containing a Group VIII metal, low amounts of bismuth, and a zeolite L. The catalyst is a nonacidic, monofunctional reforming catalyst. Preferably the catalyst contains , one or more halogens. Preferably the feed includes C8 hydrocarbons. The addition of small amounts of bismuth increase or substantially maintain catalyst stability. Unexpectedly low dealkylation rates are achieved using the catalyst while reforming to produce aromatics especially to produce xylenes , such as paraxylene.

Why it's free to use
- Filed November 6, 1998. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended November 6, 2018.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 6, 2020.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
