Abstract From the Canadian patent

A tone detector for detecting a tone such a DTMF tone by converting the signal to, the frequency domain, then extracting signal features to input to an artificial neural, network. The neural network is trained to detect the tone or detect which of , many, predetermined tones is present. It can be arranged to operate more quickly than, conventional tone detection methods. This is particularly significant for coding or, compressing signals which contain tones and other information. Since it is often, more efficient to code or compress such tones separately from the other information, it can be essential to detect and separate such tones very quickly to, avoid the risk of a single tone …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed July 27, 2000. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended July 27, 2020.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 27, 2022.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
