A procedure is described for obtaining valuable endoproteases (or zonases) from hatchery-produced Atlantic salmon eggs. Synchronized hatching by for instance elevated temperature, is followed by filtration through cheese cloth. The filtrate (hatching fluid) may be stored for months or years (depending on conditions) without loss of activity. Extraneous matters are removed by centrifugation (16,000 g, 2 x 15 min) after addition of urea (2 or 4 M or , more). Why it's free to use
- Filed December 11, 1998 and granted January 22, 2013. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended December 11, 2018.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 11, 2020.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
