Abstract From the Canadian patent

A system (fig. 1) and method (fig. 2) for detecting a current imbalance or a voltage imbalance in multiphase electrical energy provided to an energy meter. A phase single value is measured for each phase a normalized phase value for , each phase is determined and a normalized phase ratio is then determined. The highest normalized phase value is compared to a first threshold and the , normalized phase value ratio is compared to a second threshold. It is determined that an imbalance exists when the high normalized phase value is greater than the first threshold and the normalized phase value ratio is less than the second threshold.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 18, 1998 and granted June 25, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 18, 2018.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 18, 2020.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
