A clip for gripping sheet material includes a generally "C" shaped portion having first and second arms connected by a bridge portion the arms defining , a, central cavity between them. A block is provided for wedging the sheet material, into the central cavity. The block is adopted to wedge the sheet material into the, cavity upon application of a pulling force drawing the block into the "C" shaped, portion. Due to the slightly wedge-shape of the block in the central cavity an, increase in the pulling force increases the grip of the clip on the sheet material.
