Abstract From the Canadian patent

A float current probe measuring a float current flowing in a conductor comprises a core adapted to be magnetically coupled to the conductor. Excitation and field cancellation windings are magnetically coupled to the core. A detector detects when energy in the excitation winding reaches a predetermined threshold corresponding to a saturated core condition. A timer measures first and second delays needed to saturate the core as a result of the excitation winding being energized through a switch circuit in the forward and reverse polarity successively. A computing unit determines a magnetic field induced by the conductor based on the first and second measured delays. The field cancellation …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed April 26, 2000 and granted February 11, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 26, 2020.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 26, 2022.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
