A method and arrangement for a wireless communication system is disclosed that is particularly suited for efficiently covering long highway corridors in regions having a low subscriber demand. The method involves arranging the cell antennae into groups of three, with a central antenna operating as a full base station with radio equipment and land line circuits and, having the remaining two antenna serve as remote relay systems. The remote relays utilize an up converted broadband data link operating in an unlicensed radio band. In a preferred embodiment, the radio signals are converted from the 1.9 GHz licensed PCS band to a 2.4 GHz unlicensed band.

Why it's free to use
- Filed April 18, 2000. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended April 18, 2020.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 18, 2022.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
