A high data rate (HDR) cellular system designed for date rate users identifies multiple users who may be multiplexed within a high data rate forward traffic channel packet. A new preamble is defined to signal the data rate of the transmission and the identities of the multiple recipients. By multiplexing users on forward data channels in high data rate systems the system is more efficient. Also, it achieves an efficient addressing to identify multiple users within the data packet.

Why it's free to use
- Filed April 13, 2000. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended April 13, 2020.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 13, 2022.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
